Awkward Moments

So before I share this awkward moment let me set up the situation. At the lunchroom here at college, around the lunch times such as 11 and 12 the room gets really crowded. There are a lot of people here and not a lot of seats, especially in winter when no one sits outside. So when said crowdedness occurs, I usually find a table with four chairs but only one person sitting at it and I sit opposite the person so as not to create an uncomfortable eating session. Today I sat across from this guy who was texting someone. Because he was texting I didn't say anything but just started eating my food. Then while I was eating I was thinking I should strike up a conversation with this kid so that we don't sit eating in silence, it's kind of a weird thing to do, at least for me, plus there are lots of cool people here and meeting new people can be fun. Anyway I was thinking I should start talking to him but he was still texting and I didn't want to make him talk to me if he was already in a pleasant conversation via text with one of his friends. Then I started thinking something along the lines of I wonder if he had friends that were going to join him, that would be awkward, this random girl sitting at the same table as you and all your buddies. Then I thought Or maybe he is texting his girlfriend. As I entertained this thought of a girl walking up to him to see him eating lunch with another girl, the thought that maybe he was already married popped into my head. I looked and sure enough, there was a ring on his left hand ring finger. Then the whole situation became super uncomfortable because he's married. As I thought about the whole situation more I realized he did look not very happy, and super uncomfortable about me being there and no wonder, I would be the same way. Basically after that I ate all my food as fast as I could, the whole time hoping his wife didn't come up and ask who I was, then I said "Thanks for letting me sit here" and got away as fast as I could, just in case someone he did know came. Wow, I need to remember to look for the ring before sitting next to people, or just sit with another girl, unfortunately beggars can't be choosers and sometimes there isn't a girl sitting alone at a four-person table. Oh well. Hopefully this won't happen again. Ya gotta love college!
